In a matchup of the No. 7 vs. No. 11 seeds in the men’s draw, it was the higher seeded Andrey Rublev who came out on top over Peter Polansky. Between strong service and several saved break point opportunities, Rublev took the match in straight sets 6-2, 7-5.
Rublev got out to a quick start, as he won (29/33) 88% of his first serve points and overpowered Polansky at the beginning of the match. He opened up a lead after successfully breaking Polansky, and took a dominant 6-2 advantage after the first set.
The second frame was much more tightly contested, as Polansky would not go down without a fight. Unlike Rublev, this was not Polansky’s first appearance at the Oracle Challenger Series, and he was looking to build off of his performance in Newport Beach. He battled his way back to five games apiece but lost the next two games and ultimately fell 5-7.
Rublev has been impressive throughout the week, as the No. 112 ranked player in the world looks to make his mark on the Oracle Challenger Series Indian Wells.
Keep an eye out for Rublev as he takes on the winner of Alex Bolt vs. Evgeny Donskoy next.
