Jennifer Brady defeated Zarina Diyas, 6-3, 6-3, in the semifinals on Saturday morning in Indian Wells.
For Oracle Challenger Series newcomers Jennifer Brady and Viktorija Golubic, their road to the Indian Wells final has been filled with dominant victories and upsets over higher seeded opponents. While others may have counted them out, both of these ladies are playing some of the best tennis of their careers as they get set to meet tomorrow for the title.
Jennifer Brady has been met with a path of worthy opponents this week, causing her to elevate her game to a new level. On her way to the semifinals, Brady took out four consecutive American compatriots with straight-set victories over Katie Volynets, Madison Brengle, Alison Riske and Nicole Gibbs. Next, she met No. 11 seed Zarina Diyas with a spot in the finals on the line. While many expected that this is where Brady’s journey might end, she silenced the doubters with an overpowering 6-3, 6-3 victory.
For Viktorija Golubic, her run to the Oracle Challenger Series Indian Wells finals has been nothing short of dominant. She showcased a diverse array of on-court skills in her four victories over Jamie Loeb, Catherine McNally, Sara Sorribes Tormo and No. 1 seed Wang Qiang. She’s yet to drop a set throughout the tournament, and has won three sets by scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1. To put it lightly, no one has stood a chance against Golubic so far this week.
Part of the reason why tomorrow’s final is such an intriguing matchup is that the narrative surrounding both Brady and Golubic’s performance this week is the same. Neither were expected to make the finals, with each elevating their tennis to a level they have never before reached.
Make sure to tune in tomorrow to catch Jennifer Brady vs. Viktorija Golubic for the Oracle Challenger Series Indian Wells title!
