Due to a left knee injury Sachia Vickery was forced to retire before her semifinal match on Saturday morning, giving Mona Barthel a walk over victory into Sunday’s WTA finals. The 28-year-old Barthel, who defeated Lin Zhu, Zarina Diyas and Dayana Yastremska earlier this week, is currently ranked World No. 111 and has 4 WTA titles to her name. Barthel, along with doubles partner Kristyna Pliskova, took the women’s doubles title early Saturday afternoon – will she be leaving Chicago with two championship trophies?
Her opponent will be World No. 47 and number 2 seed Petra Martic of Croatia. Martic, who beat Jamie Loeb, Sesil Karatantcheva and Varvara Lepchenko earlier this week beat World No. 70 Tatjana Maria of Germany in the semifinals today: 61, 62.
