The Oracle Challenger Series announced today that the upcoming tournament in Newport Beach, California – to be held January 21-27, 2019 at the Newport Beach Tennis Club – will feature the Oracle Champions Cup, an Invesco Series QQQ event on Saturday, January 26 at 6:00 p.m.
The one-night event in Newport Beach is part of the competitive tennis circuit featuring legendary tennis icons and world-renowned champions, and will feature 2003 U.S. Open Champion and former World No. 1 Andy Roddick; 10-time ATP Tour titlist and former World No. 4 James Blake; 2004 Olympic silver medalist and 6-time ATP Tour singles winner Mardy Fish; and 2000 Olympic silver medalist and former World No. 2 Tommy Haas. The event will consist of two one-set semifinals, with the winners meeting in a one-set championship match.
Tickets to the event start at $35, and are now on sale at InvescoSeries.com. Special VIP packages are also available, including a pro-am, backstage meet-and-greet, exclusive player party, and more.
The Oracle Champions Cup will highlight the final weekend of the Oracle Challenger Series, which is making its return to the Newport Beach Tennis Club this January. The Series – which aims to provide new opportunities for up-and-coming American tennis players to secure both ranking points and prize money – began in Newport Beach earlier this year, with Taylor Fritz and Danielle Collins taking home the inaugural titles.
The Newport Beach tournament will be instrumental in determining which two American male and female players receive wild cards into their respective singles main draws at the 2019 BNP Paribas Open. The two American women and two American men who accumulate the most points over the course of the four events in the Series will be awarded the wild cards into the largest ATP Tour and WTA combined two-week event in the world, held annually at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
