After singles semifinals play wrapped on a picturesque day at the Oracle Challenger Series New Haven, the women’s doubles finalists took the court. Ultimately, the Russian/Georgian duo of Anna Blinkova and Oksana Kalashnikova claimed the trophy in a hard-fought three-set victory over Americans Jamie Loeb and Usue Maitane Arconada.
The No. 2 seeds have been stellar all week, downing a host of talented teams on their way to the title. For Kalashnikova, the triumph marks her fifth career doubles title and second of the WTA 125K series. The Georgian has established herself as a true doubles specialist, powering forehands and winners down the line past Loeb/Arconada on numerous occasions.
For Blinkova and Arconada, the doubles final was merely round 1 of their finals meetings set to occur in New Haven. Oddly enough, the two will meet once again on Sunday in the women’s singles final. For now, it was Blinkova who came out on top over the American.
