Seven Americans highlight the Oracle Challenger Series Chicago women’s main draw, which begins Tuesday at the XS Tennis Village.
Danielle Collins, current World No. 37 and the winner of the Newport Beach event earlier this year, comes in as the No. 1 seed and will take on Jana Fett of Croatia in the first round. Collins, who accepted a last minute wild card into the tournament, was one of the inaugural Road to Indian Wells wild card recipients after her success in both the Newport Beach and the Indian Wells 125k events last year. Collins took advantage of the opportunity, reaching the Round of 16 at the BNP Paribas Open, and rode that momentum all the way to the semifinals in Miami.
Also in Collins’ quarter of the draw is No. 6 seed Sachia Vickery, who had the biggest win of her career at the BNP Paribas Open last year, when she defeated then-No. 3 Garbiñe Muguruza.
The World No. 47 Petra Martic is the No. 2 seed and will face a yet-to-be-determined qualifier in the opening round. Martic has had an impressive year, reaching both the quarterfinals at Indian Wells in March as well as the finals in Bucharest.
Other notable players include wild card Francesca Di Lorenzo, who is coming off her first career Grand Slam victory at the US Open; Canadian Eugenie Bouchard who will take on a qualifier; No. 8 seed Johanna Larsson, who took home her second career title earlier this year at Nurnberg; and former top 20 ranked player Varvara Lepchenko.
Zarina Diyas (No. 3), Tatjana Maria (No. 4), Pauline Parmentier (No. 5) and Evgeniya Rodina (No. 7) round out the seeded players.
